Flame thrower
Flame throwers were used to clear out enemy bunkers. You had to be careful when you used one because the entire tank was combustible.
tanks
Tanks were used to roll over trenches, provide cover for infantry, and go through barbed wire. They were for the most part immune to small arms fire.
fighters
The airplane was first used in world war one as a scout, however it was quickly armed to fight in combat. This included other aircraft, but also dropping grenades.
aircraft carriers
These were more of a concept than a prevalent invention. Small boats would be towed behind larger ones to get the aircraft up to speed. Then it would be launched by a catapult like device into the air.
chemical warfare
This was the first time that nerve gasses were used.
gas masks
In response to the chemical warfare, the gas mask was invented. Versions were made for all kinds of animals too. Both horses and dogs used them.
Steel helmets
Steel helpmates were more effective than leather of fabric ones, but by no means bullet proof. However they were somewhat effective agents shrapnel if you were far enough away from the blast.
